Listen to Unearthing Stories and enjoy the character portraits. Written and recorded by Little Green Pig young writers from across Moulsecoomb, Whitehawk and central Brighton. These short one to three minute recordings bring to life lesser told tales of Victorian farm life, inspired by Saddlescombe Farm in the South Downs. Edited and recorded by sound artist Sarah Sayeed.
The children chose human and non-human characters from Victorian times and through visits and creative workshops used photography alongside writing to imagine and bring their characters to life with writer Georgina Aboud and visual artist Eva Jonas. The stories of maids, girls, chicken farmers, cats, ducks, ants, sheepdogs, grandfather clocks and books now all gain a spot in history with the children recording their characters lives through telling stories, reading diary entries and interviewing each other.

The photograph portraits express actions and body language that the children chose to convey their characters. They took these photos themselves, using analog photography, on site at Saddlescombe Farm. These image were also annotated and made into a zine. Enjoy exploring!
