Little Green Pig’s Code of Conduct for Parents and Carers of After School Club members & Children and Young People at our clubs

Created August 2026, to be reviewed August 2028

What we promise you as parents and carers

We want every child to feel safe at Little Green Pig. We want every family, staff member and volunteer to feelsafe too.

We welcome families from many different backgrounds. We expect everyone to treat every child, family, staffmember and volunteer with respect, whatever their race, religion, class, disability, gender, sexuality or background.

This is what we ask from you. This helps us keep everyone safe.

We run our clubs in different places. Some are schools. Some are libraries and community centres. We do notown these buildings. We are guests.

How we behave matters. How you behave matters too. It affects whether we can keep using these places.

You do not need to sign this. If you bring your child to a session, that means you agree to it. If you haveany questions about this, contact Learning Manager Nikki Shaill nikki@littlegreenpig.org.uk To find out more about how we commit to keeping children, staff and families safe you can see our policies online here, including our Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, Privacy and Data Policy and SafeguardingPolicy: www.littlegreenpig.org.uk

Five things we do not allow from parents/carers:

1.   Talking or interrupting during sessions. If you are invited to be present in the building during any workshop sessions, please let the Workshop Leader lead. Do not talk or call out during the session. Thismakes it hard for the leader, mentors and the children to concentrate.

2.   Taking photos or videos of other people's children Do not take photos or videos during sessions. Onlydo this if a staff member says it is okay. Never share photos of children who are not your own.

3.   Being aggressive or rude to staff, volunteers or other adults. Do not shout. Do not threaten. Do notswear at anyone. Do not scare anyone at the club. We will not tolerate abusive or discriminatory language.Thismeans in person. It also means on the phone, by email, or in messages.

4.   Not collecting your child on time Please collect your child on time. If you are late, call us and tell us.Staff and volunteers need to get home too.

5.   Complaining about us on social media instead of talking to us If something is bothering you, please tell us first. Do not post concerns/complaints about the club online. Do not post about our staff or other familiesonline. Talking to us is faster and fairer.

If something serious happens

Some problems are serious. For example, violence or threats. We will not use this document for serious problems. We will tell our Designated Safeguarding Lead straight away. We may also tell the police or social services.

This document is for smaller, everyday problems.

What happens if you break this code

We will always try to talk to you first. If a problem does not stop, here is what will happen:

We will talk to you. We will explain what happened and why it matters.

We will write to you. If it happens again, we will write and explain what needs to change. Your child may lose their place. If the problem continues, your child may not be able to come to sessions anymore.

If you have a worry about the club

Please tell us. Talk to people in this order:

  1. Our Little Green Pig Learning & Engagement Manager (Nikki Shaill) for Brighton and Hove clubs and other projects and our Regional Producer (Laura Halliwell) for Eastbourne and Worthing clubs. You have their contact details already if your child is a member of one of our ASCs.

  2. Our Designated Safeguarding Lead, if it is a safeguarding concern nicky@littlegreenpig.org.uk

  3. Our complaints process, if your worry is still not fixed.

Thank you for helping us keep Little Green Pig a place everyone wants to be part of.

Code of Conduct for Children and Young People

At Little Green Pig we are proud that our young writers often share that they feel supported, safe and free to express themselves within our After School Clubs and workshops. We aim to create a community where children and adults all treat each other with respect and listen to each other.

We understand that some children will have difficulty managing their behaviour and that some children haveparticular challenges on this journey. If children require additional support with their behaviour we will consult withtheir family or school on strategies we can agree on.By using positive behaviour support we can nearly alwaysmanage behaviour within our clubs. On the rare occasions where a child demonstrates inappropriate or unsafebehaviour we will let the parents/carers know so they are aware. We will also communicate with teaching staff at theschool, when appropriate and helpful.

This code aims to clarify the types of behaviour that will not be tolerated and sets out the actions that Little GreenPig staff can take should this code be ignored or where breaches occur. Please make sure that you haveshared these expectations with your child.

At Little Green Pig children should not:

1.   Be aggressive or rude to staff, volunteers or other children. Do not shout. Do not say things that youknow will upset others. Do not use offensive language. Do not be unkind to anyone. We will not allow bullying to takeplace and we will always challenge it.

2.   Be in physical contact with other children or adults. We want to avoid all physical contact where wecan. This includes physical contact that may be intended as playful (wrestling/punching arms/jumping on eachother/snatching things from others’ hands).

3.   Cause intentional damage to items or surroundings at the club. Take care with items and the space. This includes pencils, pens, toys, furniture, walls and books. This includes your own belongings and those of others. Respect the club resources and the spaces that are hosting us too.

4.   Leave the space we are in without permission from an adult. To keep everyone safe during our club sessions, we need children to stay within the space unless they are told they can leave.

 5.   Ignore the requests of the workshop leaders or mentors. We ask that children listen to what they are being asked to do or take part in. We know that listening can look different in different people, so we don’t expect eyecontact or sitting still for everyone. However we do ask that children listen and follow instructions to enable them tosafely join in. We will commit to always listening to the views, voices and questions of the children in return.

What happens if a child breaks this code: We will always try to talk to the child and let the parent/carer knowtoo. If a problem does not stop, here is what will happen:

 1. We will talk to the child and to the parent/carer. We will explain what happened and why it matters.

2. We will write to the parent/carer. If it happens again, we will write and explain what needs to change.

3. Your child may lose their place. If the problem continues, your child may not be able to come to sessions anymore.
