Ocean Wonder has set sail!

What do you think of when you think of the ocean? What does it mean to you? For children and young people at Little Green Pig, the ocean has become a source of endless inspiration – and wonder.

The Launch

Our latest project, Ocean Wonder, is a culmination of work from young writers across all our clubs in Brighton, Eastbourne and Worthing, as well as from partnerships with international creative writing groups. It’s our biggest publication yet!

To celebrate the momentous efforts of our writers, we held three launch events at Jubilee Library in Brighton, Towner Eastbourne, and Worthing Museum & Gallery, all of which were attended by many of our young writers and their families, as well as our mentors, trustees and patrons. Each launch was a wonderful celebration of creative accomplishment, with so many young writers bravely stepping up to perform their work, blowing us all away with their ingenuity and brilliance.

Zucchini Blobfish?!

The young writers also made their own decorations out of recycled materials for the event, came up with Ocean-themed names for snacks and drinks (the Magical Mermaid Mocktail was deeee-LISH!), and took part in a game in which we had to work out our underwater names. (Anyone get Zucchini Blobfish?) There was a wide range of writing on display, with not just poetry being read, but raps and sea shanties, too! We had comedy, we had magic and mystery, and we had powerful manifestos and poignant speeches. But most importantly, we had fun, and we hope everyone who came did, too!

Thank you!

Designed by Sherlock Studio and supported by project funding from Arts Council England, there was a special foreword written to the anthology by wildlife expert and conservationist Megan McCubbin. Copies are available free to borrow or take home in local libraries, or you can read Ocean Wonder for yourself, here: https://www.littlegreenpig.org.uk/publications/oceanwonder

We’d love to know what you think of it! Find us on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.
