Word Feast

Food inspired poetry, stories and recipes by Little Green Pig’s Brighton and Hove young writers.

From dream meals to allotment visits, fantasy foods to favourite family recipes... feast on our ideas and words! The words and artwork in this book have been inspired by local garden visits, taking part in tasting sessions, sharing favourite foods and dreaming up fiction from ingredient’s perspectives! Ideas and food word banks were created through sensory sessions with Kindly. Field research was done tasting freshly picked berries, smelling herbs and handling worms at local allotments.

Local artist Lizzie Lomax helped us to create colourful paper collages of the foods we love that illustrate this book. Whether remembering family holidays through the scent of cinnamon, or writing down recipes for favourite foods, we’ve shared personal connections to cuisines from across our own cultures.
