January 2022 newsletter

Dear friends,

As we nudge toward the end of January, we hope we’re not too late to wish you all a very healthy, hopeful and happy new year ahead! With ‘business as usual’ remaining a somewhat distant prospect, we’re nonetheless excited about our plans for 2022 building on so many of the brilliant projects and themed work we accomplished last year.  Like so many organisations and sectors, Omicron has depleted our team of amazing volunteers so we’d like to put a call out for anybody able to commit some time and energy to supporting our regular After School Clubs on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday afternoons; the rewards are beyond description and we’re always delighted to welcome folk from all walks of life and backgrounds into the Little Green Pig family fold.  Check out the details on our website and drop us a line at info@littlegreenpig.org.uk if you want to find out more.

Call out for Youth Board members

As an organisation focused on forging creative opportunities and pathways for children and young people, it's been our mission to ensure their voices are at the heart of our governing structure and influential in determining our direction of travel. To that end, since summer 2020 we’ve recruited a core team of young people with experience of participating in Little Green Pig’s programme of work and who have helped develop the brief and responsibilities that the Youth Board will deliver.  With a number of signature projects involving young people successfully completed in 2021, we’re keen to build on this momentum and recruit additional members who can support our existing team. Candidates don’t have to have been involved in Little Green Pig projects previously but have a genuine interest in writing and/or providing a forum for young people’s voices to be heard.  Bara’a, one of our current youth board members describes what’s involved, the benefits & life skills it can offer and how to apply.

If you know a young person aged between 14 - 18 who you think would make a valuable addition to our team, we’d love to hear from them.  The deadline for applications is on Monday 7th February at 11pm.

Welcome to our new trustees!

And on the subject of boards, over the last year we’ve bid farewell to some of our longest serving, most dedicated and hugely committed board members.  We can’t thank them enough for their contribution which has undoubtedly helped make Little Green Pig what it is today.  Despite leaving some very tough shoes to fill, their legacy and support over many years is testimony to the calibre of individuals who have and currently make up our board.  Joining our existing team, we welcome Comms supremo Emily Bromfield who brings a wealth of experience in the charity sector, graphic designer and one of Little Green Pig’s longest serving volunteers, Chris Callard, and Brighton primary headteacher, Lizzie Mullarky, to the LGP round table.  They’re joined by inclusive arts practice specialist Jess Sterns and Ed Cottrell, author and digital comms manager with New Writing South.  Salutations to you all!!

And to continue the festive traditions, wishing all those who herald in the new lunar year a very special celebration with a particular shout out to all you brave and confident tigers; may you have a roaring time of it!!
