YEAR 6 ACTIVITY PROMPT

We’d love for children in Year 6 to feel they have a powerful part to play in the Inklings narrative, as well as helping to save the tree.

So we would like to hear from Year 6 in their writing…

What do YOU think should happen to the Inklings and the tree?”

“Imagine that you’re in control of this story and what happens next to the Inklings and the tree. What ending / next chapter would YOU write for these creatures?”

We want to hear Year 6’s ideas on what could happen next…

  • Should the tree be saved?

  • What would MOUTH do if they can’t chop down the tree? How will they react?

  • How would the school react if the tree was saved?

  • Will the inklings stay at the school forever?

  • Will the inklings move on/leave the tree and the school?

  • How will the school know if the inklings have left?

  • Where would the inklings go?

  • How would the inklings travel/get somewhere else?

  • Would the children need to do anything else to help the inklings?

  • Would the inklings ever return to the school and why?

Lots of questions to ask Year 6 that we would love to see their imaginative ideas for…maybe it will help shape what happens next? Please share their ideas and writing with me via email nikki@littlegreenpig.org.uk or share via Google Docs etc

WEEK EIGHT - 10 JUNE -14 JUNE

We only have a couple of weeks left of the Inklings and the Tree teacher-led adventure. Soon the children will find out that the tree has been saved, thanks to their writing and letters, and that the inklings will have been saved too and then moved on from their sanctuary at the school…but there are some key stages to take place before this ending can occur.

STRANGE SUSSEX - Inklings & Trees Special Edition - submit work by children for inclusion in the Newspaper/Zine to be printed

A newspaper will be printed that each child will receive a copy of to take home and feel proud of, distributed after a special Inklings Celebration assembly. For this, we want to include in it as much writing and creative work/drawings/images to represent as many children as we can, from Reception through to Year 6. We will be designing and printing the newspaper professionally, to feel like a real edition of “Strange Sussex” and for this we need YOUR HELP to share examples of work from your class with us to be part of the publication?

Ways to share work: Google Drive folder here OR Dropbox folder here

Upload writing (transcribed work/photos of original writing) - it could be about the tree/the inklings/nature/evidences/poems-anything inspired by this project & maps & drawings & photos of sculpted creations/artwork or anything else that you think should be included, please? Making sure clear whose work it is and what year group?

It doesn’t need formatting like a newspaper - I can design and put it all together.

Deadline for sharing this: Tuesday 11 June, 5pm

please share everything you want to be part of the newspaper by the above date if you’d like it to be considered for the publication.

In this week, you can also revisit any previous week’s activities that you didn’t yet complete/do/have designed to try out still inspired by this project:

  • illustrations/clay sculptures of Inklings

  • drawing maps of what imagine inside the tree looks like

  • finishing and posting or emailing protest letters and poems to MOUTH Agency to save the tree and make their case known

  • writing in different forms about trees

  • character studies about Inklings and other characters in their world

  • writing emails/letters to Kit Kelp, author of The Inklings picture book tinybasketbooks@gmail.com

ANY QUESTIONS? Do get in touch.

Thank you for all your teacher feedback so far- it’s invaluable to us. Keep it coming!
