ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY  POLICY OCTOBER 2021

Little Green Pig (LGP) is a Brighton & Hove charity working with children and young people across Sussex to improve their life chances through writing and creativity.

At LGP we are committed to continuously improving the way we work for the benefit of people and the environment. We will monitor our activities to better understand and improve our performance, and we will take action to create a movement for positive change through our work with children and young people and their families to meet the challenges of the climate and biodiversity crisis.

We will:

  • Reduce LGP’s CO2 emissions to net zero by 2030 by monitoring our energy and transport emissions, the products we use and the ways we work to create an achievable plan to use less.

  •  Reduce energy use by selecting lower energy products and appliances, turning off lights, finding sustainable ways to insulate and heat our building

  • Travel by bike, foot or public transport wherever possible

  • Reduce water use by checking for leaks and using water wisely

  • Reduce the waste we generate, then re-use, re-purpose, repair, recycle  or compost before considering waste to landfill

  • Work in partnership with local suppliers (of energy and materials) wherever possible to protect natural resources. Talk to our suppliers to ensure they are as local and sustainable as possible, and support a circular economy.

  • Use environmentally friendly products across the organisation

  • Regularly review our environmental practices to make sure we keep up to date,   learn from others and share good practice. Track and report how we do.

  • Work in compliance with relevant environmental legislation and regularly review our carbon footprint and wider environmental impact.

  • Continuously improve our knowledge and awareness of environmental and ecological issues through our Learning and Engagement programme

  • Only partner or accept funding or sponsorship from organisations that are not associated with environmental damage, animal cruelty, weapons manufacture, exploitation of people or developing countries.

  • Be a member of the Southern Culture Declares Emergency Hub and support Brighton’s vision of being a Carbon Neutral City by 2030.

We will use our imagination to develop ways in which LGP can raise awareness and advocate for change through our learning programme, our engagement with children, young people and communities and our fundraising and procurement practices ensuring we find the best ways to support environmental justice.
